Marketing on the web has long relied on the written word. While text-based marketing can be quite successful, advances in technology have made videos a far more viable option.  Videos are great because they can deliver information quickly and get your point across with very little effort from your audience.

YouTube is the premier site for posting, sharing, and watching videos. This makes it an obvious choice for online marketing.  Product reviews, training videos, tutorials, and even humorous videos are all very popular and can be used to deliver a strong marketing message.

Options For Marketing

What many people don’t realize, however, is that your video based marketing efforts can be far more successful with a few tweaks and additions. YouTube offers an extensive collection of options for optimization, branding, and promotion.  Simply by employing some of these changes, you can get much more out of YouTube than ever before.

Branding is one of the most basic and fundamental marketing concepts around. It can also be a great way to get more power out of YouTube.  Branding should extend throughout everything you do on this site.  The name of your channel, along with the logo and channel art, should all be well branded and easily identified as belonging to the same source.

This branding can also continue within the videos themselves. Many of the most successful YouTubers have found that including a branded introduction in each video helps to create a feeling of consistency.  Adding a branded ending to each video can also be a great way to encourage viewers to check out the rest of your channel.

Link to Other Websites

Videos can be used to link to other websites, offers, landing pages, and nearly anything else you might use in your marketing campaigns. Links can easily be placed within the video description without using any special tools.  YouTube also offers a variety of resources that allow you place HTML links right in your videos and have them pop up at the perfect time.

YouTube also allows you to link your channel to any website you wish. Make sure to take advantage of this.  Viewers who like what they see will crawl your channel and search for more information.  It’s always a good idea to make sure they find your site.

Use Keywords

Just like a blog post, keywords and tags can be added to each video. This will help people find your videos when they search for a certain topic on YouTube.  You should always include any and all relevant keywords in each video.  You can separate each word or phrase with a comma or select the keywords that YouTube suggests.  In addition to this, you can add keywords to your whole channel as well.

Upload and Share

One of the things that makes YouTube so powerful is that it acts as a video hosting site. It allows you to upload a video to YouTube and then post it to nearly any blog, website, or social media platform you can think of.  It can be a great idea to immediately share your videos on Facebook fan pages, email lists, and websites to help maximize your viewership numbers.

Connect With Other You Tubers

In addition to being a great place to find and post videos, YouTube acts like a social media platform as well. Many YouTubers will promote each other or make guest appearances on other shows.  This works surprisingly well when you can connect with another YouTuber who covers topics that are similar to yours.  Simply doing this can often increase your views significantly.

Videos have become so popular and so easy to produce that it would be insane to not take advantage of YouTube. As with any form of marketing, however, there are some best practices that should be followed.  Make sure everything you do is well branded.  Always be sure to share your videos and encourage viewers to do the same.  Finally, try working with other YouTubers to help increase your exposure.

Tom thank you for a great article on YouTube Video Marketing Strategy. I really enjoyed reading it and found it very educational.

As an internet marketer I have not fully got involved with Video marketing however I agree with you it’s much easier for the audience to consume information than reading text-based articles.

I do believe video marketing is the future and I really need to get my act together. Do you use any special software for creating videos?

      Hi Moni,

      Thanks for your comment.

I use a software called Camtasia. It records the screen of your laptop so you can record powerpoint presentations, data that you want to show or even yourself on your laptop camera. It really is an excellent software.

I need to get mine reloaded as it is not working properly at the minute.

If you need any help with your videos or have any questions then please let me know.

      All the best,

I must say that your article is in a perfect “timing” since most of the internet marketers Newbies and expert alike, right now are turning to YouTube for promotions and to drive traffic.

And at the same time, people who are watching it are increasing rapidly these days as well.
Because like what you have said, videos deliver the information quickly and direct to the point.

I, myself is thinking of entering YouTube as well to drive traffic to my site.
But what holds back is that, I believe it will be time consuming.
You know, between blogs and videos?

How much time do you spend on shooting and editing your videos?

      Hi Mina,

      Thanks for your comment.

I use a software called Camtasia when making my videos, so it doesn’t take very long as I make powerpoint presentation videos. They are really easy to make as long as you have a good headset and microphone.

I can make up to 5 videos in one day pretty easily.

Have you started making videos yet?
